T-Shirt Re-Designed!

I wasn't very happy with the color scheme from the previous design, and so here's the simplified black and white re-dos. Apparently, the snails won a T-shirt design contest, but who knows what will happen next? Stay tuned for upcoming details...

Joe Olson's Drawing for Animation Midterm

For Joe Olsen's Drawing for Animation midterm, he had us take our old toy design and REdo it, applying all the new knowledge and skills we've learned since then, as well as spicing it up with a new theme. Another aspect of the assignment was documenting our research process, including our "creative" exercises and our "knowledge" based studies. And so here is everything I've got in ALL of its dubious splendor. Oh, and the theme was "Viking Raiders."

You likey?

2 Points! On the theme of "Enchanted Forest"

Welp, here's the latest. For some reason, it looked cooler in my head than it does here. In case you were wondering, that's a double-decker hot-air balloon bus. If I ever learned how to paint in Photoshop, I'd probably go back in here and make everything all glowy and cool-like. Alas...

A Maya Explosion!

hi

Well, hello everyone! I posted these to Facebook again because Blogger doesn't take big movie files. The top one was animated using Maya Dynamics, like particle emitters and some manipulated fields. The second was modeled using Polygons and animated with Blend Shapes. How do they look?

Thank you all for coming here and commenting on the previous posts! You guys are all amazing!

Recent Assignments from Joe's class

Well, these things always come out in reverse order, so starting from the bottom, a design and composition assignment (felt good to do designy stuff again).

Second is an "Imaginary Friend" themed assignment incorporating design principles (i.e. balance, contrast, continuity, etc). Yup, if I had imaginary friends, they'd be a crew of highly trained assassins, at one with the night and akin to forces of nature.

Third is a 1 pt perspective exercise based on the theme "The Scene of the Crime". Sorry if the story isn't very readable.. but the story is that a mafia boss and his crew just capped some narcs and threw them into some shark infested waters.

A T-shirt design!

This was just an idea I wanted to get out, just to see what it would look like... I actually took this photo, then played around with some Photoshop effects. What d'u think? Would you buy this t-shirt?

last 2 env paintings

These are the last 2 environments... a smokey, dimly lit throne room, and a Corrupted Tower of Light spewing forth dark clouds of dooom... anyways, I really need to learn how to do digital painting... one of these days...

First 2 environs..

2 environments, displaying my complete lack of Photoshop-painting-skills. The interior is the "Spark Chamber", where the hero first meets his horse companion. The exterior is the Last Tower of Light... hidden within an idyllic mountain valley. But anyways, 2 down, 2 more to go...

Eech, it kinda hurts to post these ugly paintings, but it's all part of the learning process, right? Hopefully I'll get into Sam's digital painting class and learn how to do all those pretty Photoshop effects, but for now I'm just trudging along all by my lonesome.

Now that I think about it, I never really was good at painting... All growing up, I mostly used pens and pencils... sometimes markers, but using paint was much more rare. Oh well...
